The latest Housing Market Consumer Confidence survey by Ipsos for Halifax has found an upswing in expectations that UK property prices will be higher in 12 months time. Now, 39% think the average price will be higher with 20% expecting a fall (a House Price Outlook of +19). This compares to equivalent figures of 29% and 22% in January this year (+7). Bullishness on prices is reflected in an improvement in the percentage who think the same 12 month period will be a good time to sell, up from 10% in January to 24% now. But selling sentiment still contrasts sharply with views on buying – 55% think the next 12 months will be a good time to buy.

On private rents, 71% think they will be higher in 12 months time with the same percentage of private renters sharing this expectation.
