This research follows the publication last year of our 'Matter Of Trust' poll.
- Overall, four fifths (82%) say that it is important to them that charities are clear about how they spend their money.
- Around half (47%) agree that charities should just concentrate on helping people in need, rather than campaigning to change society as a whole.
- Only around three in ten (28%) feel that charities that deliver public services should always use paid staff rather than volunteers, and a similar percentage (27%) agrees that it is not the government's responsibility to ensure a healthy charity sector.
- Only a quarter (23%) agree that charities should be more involved in running public services, rising to 35% of those aged 16-24, (and users of their services) compared with just 18% of those aged 55-75.
- A similar proportion (22%) agree that CEOs of charities should be paid as much as people who run similar size organisations in the future, though this rises to a third (32%) of those aged 16-24 and charity volunteers and employees. Over four in ten (43%) disagree, however.
Ipsos conducted 1,009 online interviews with adults aged 16-75 across Great Britain between 10th and 14th October 2014. Data are weighted to the profile of the population.
