The Scottish Government commissioned a module of questions exploring people's housing aspirations in the February 2010 wave of Ipsos's Scottish Public Opinion Monitor. The main aim of the survey was to reveal any changes in housing aspirations, as a consequence of the `credit crunch', since the questions were first asked by the Scottish Government in 2007. Questions related to:160

  • whether people would like to, or are planning to move property
  • tenure preferences
  • reasons people have for wanting to move property
  • views on renting from private and social landlords, and home owning.

Technical details Interviews were conducted by telephone among 1,006 adults (18+) in Scotland between 18th February and 21st February 2010, using the quarterly Ipsos Scottish Public Opinion Monitor. Data were weighted by age, sex, working status and tenure to match the profile of the population of Scotland.
