Public Acceptability of Cross-Sectoral Data Linkage
A series of deliberative events exploring public views on the acceptability of linking personal data for statistical and research purposes
The Scottish Government commissioned Ipsos Scotland, in collaboration with the Centre for Population Health Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, to conduct a series of deliberative events exploring public views on the acceptability of linking personal data for statistical and research purposes. The aim of the research was to identify particular sensitivities and potential barriers to public confidence surrounding data linkage and explore mechanisms for overcoming concerns.
The research was conducted in parallel with, and to supplement, findings from the Scottish Government’s consultation, A Scotland-wide Data Linkage Framework for Statistics and Research.
The research comprised three half-day workshops, held in Stirling, Inverness and Glasgow between 26 May and 9 June 2012, with participants recruited to be broadly representative of the Scottish population.
