Research Among The General Public And Those With Arthritis
The Arthritis Research Campaign (arc) has previously estimated that around 8 million people are affected by arthritis. From this survey, however, the proportion who say that they have or have had arthritis or joint pain is over a third (36%), which translates into more than 16 million adults -- double the previously estimated number.
While many of these people may have had joint pain for a while only, rather than arthritis, on the face of it the results suggest that more people may have the condition than was previously thought. Around three in ten (29%) adults says they are currently affected by arthritis or joint pain, representing more than thirteen million across Great Britain -- around 50% more than arc's previous estimate.
