Carol Smillie is Best Dressed Scot
The Scots have been confirmed as a nation of designer label lovers in a new survey to mark the opening of the country's latest designer outlet shopping village - Gretna Gateway. The poll also appears to dispel the generally held belief that fashion is a female domain and puts television favourite Carol Smillie at the top of Scotland's best dressed list.
The Gretna Gateway poll, conducted by MORI Scotland, shows that a massive 52% of Scots buy designer label clothes compared to a GB average of 43%, (44% in the South, 41% in the Midlands and Wales and 41% in the North of England).
The survey also found that more Scots men than women buy designer label clothes at least once a month (17% men compared with 15% women) with 37% Scots men aged 18-34 buying them at least once a month compared with just 24% women in the same age bracket.
The nation's traditional canny nature was also confirmed with 52% of value conscious Scots saying that they would buy more designer label clothes if they could afford it, compared with 43% GB wide.
Scots also put Carol Smillie (19%) at the top of their best dressed list ahead of nearest rivals Sean Connery (18%), Ally McCoist (13%) and Kirsty Young (9%).
