Scottish Conservative Party Spring Conference 2011: an Ipsos Briefing Pack
As the Scottish Conservative Party’s Spring Conference gets underway in Glasgow on Friday, Ipsos take a look at the party’s polling performance and highlight the key issues that will dominate this year’s Holyrood election campaign. Our latest poll shows the party polling 13% in both the constituency and regional list votes. Based on a uniform swing across seats, this suggests that the party will return two fewer MSPs that in 2007. Annabel Goldie is relatively well known among the public, who are divided in terms of satisfaction with the way she is doing her job as leader. However, the majority of Conservative supporters are satisfied with her performance as leader. It is clear that the key battleground for votes will be around the economy and the key public services, since these are clear priorities for the electorate. The state of the economy remains the most important issue of concern for Scots but we expect the public to become increasingly interested in the key public services as the election draws closer. Conservative supporters are more upbeat about the prospects for the UK economy than they are about prospects for the Scottish economy.
