MORI research for NESTA (the National Endowment for Science and Technology) shows that the British public feel it important to be informed about new developments in science and technology (90%). The media (66%) and government (51%) are seen as having the main responsibility for providing information, support or advice about science to the general public, with scientists at 30%.

Attitudes To Irish Language Radio Programming
A quarter of radio listeners in Ireland (25%) listen to Irish language radio on at least an occasional basis, according to new research from MORI Ireland. The project was published by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland and co-sponsored by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and Foras na Gaeilge, the Irish language advocacy organisation.

Pressure On British Businesses To Off-Shore Is Great And Becoming Greater
Three in ten (30%) of the CBI member organisations surveyed have off-shored activities; even more feel that the pressures to do so are great (45%), and becoming greater (51%). With the "push" factors becoming more prominent, there are also a number of "pull" factors encouraging organisations to off-shore: almost all of those considering or currently off-shoring feel the potential for off-shoring has increased with improvements in technology (91%).

British 'Can Be Persuaded' On EU
British views on the new EU Constitution could be affected by persuasive arguments that it would be either good or bad for the country, according to new research from MORI. The project, part of regular surveys carried out for Citigroup, shows one in five (22%) say they are generally in favour of Britain adopting the European constitution, but could be persuaded against if they thought it would be bad for Britain. More than a quarter (28%) are generally opposed to Britain adopting the European constitution, but could be persuaded in favour if they thought it would be good for Britain.

Corporate Security
IT and network security are the greatest security concerns for members of the CBI, according to new research from MORI. The research, jointly commissioned by CBI and QinetiQ, shows a large majority (97%) of members have either great or some concern about the overall security of their business. Almost three in five (58%) say IT and network security is a great concern, while two in five name 'Provision of standby facilities for business continuity purposes' (41%), 'Risk to brand value of security incidents' (40%) and 'Risk to employees of security incidents' (38%).

Royal Mail's Quality Of Service: The Customers' Viewpoint
New research carried out by MORI jointly on behalf of Royal Mail, Postwatch, the consumer watchdog for postal services, and Postcomm, the industry regulator into the current perceptions and requirements of the postal service is released today. This survey is part of a larger review process undertaken by Postcomm to ensure that the new Royal Mail Quality of Service targets, to take effect from April 2006 as part of the new price control, encourage the operator to reach and maintain an acceptable level of service relative to price and customer expectation.

Out Of Town Shopping
Research conducted by MORI for King Sturge, on behalf of The Accessible Retail and Shopping Park Investors Forum has found that the likelihood among consumers to visit out of town shopping facilities over town or city centres appears to be influenced by whether people drive and whether they have a car in their household. However the decision is also determined largely by the type of goods being purchased. The research was conducted to better understand the use of transport in relation to various types of shopping and non-shopping related journeys and to look at the behaviour and attitudes of consumers with regard to different retail offers.

New Labour And Delivery
Received political wisdom is that modern governments, especially the present British government, are and will be judged by the public on whether they have "delivered". So "Has New Labour delivered?" will, it is suggested, be the key question on which the outcome of the next general election may turn (assuming, of course, that the opposition has regained a sufficient degree of political credibility for anybody to take them seriously as an alternative).
