Number of respondents: Interviews were conducted face-to-face, among 164 respondents (each question was asked of at least 80 respondents), between 4 September -- 6 December 2002. Where results do not sum to 100, this may be due to computer rounding, multiple responses or the exclusion of don't know categories.

Respondents were selected from board directors of Britain's leading companies; top UK 500 by turnover; FTSE 500; top 100 by capital employed. 74% of respondents are Chairman, CEO, MD or President.
