Waste Prevention Survey in Scotland

Ipsos was commissioned to explore public attitudes and behaviours regarding domestic waste and consumer choice by Waste Aware Scotland. The core objective of the research was to provide baseline measurements against which changes to attitudes to waste minimisation and recycling can be assessed over time. Of primary interest was the general public’s behaviour in relation to six areas: packaging, shopping bags, food waste, home composting, unwanted mail.
Ipsos interviewed a representative sample of 1,001 adults by telephone across Scotland.
Technical Details
In order to capture an accurate and representative snapshot of the Scottish general public, telephone interviews were conducted with 1,001 adults aged 18+ across Scotland. All interviews were conducted between 29 August and 14 September 2008. Telephone numbers were randomly generated and within sampled households interviews were conducted to match quotas set by sex, age, work status, and area of Scotland. The data was weighted to reflect the Scottish population in terms of age, gender, property type and work status using 2001 census data.
