Ipsos/Reuters Poll: Afghanistan Policy

Washington, D.C. - These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters from May 2nd - 4th, 2012. A summary of the findings are listed below:
  • Most Americans are aware of Obama's announced policies for Afghanistan, though fewer are familiar with them.
  • Americans remain somewhat conflicted on our involvement in Afghanistan. On one hand, most was to see US involvement in the conflict come to an end -- symbolized by a majority in favor of bringing troops home and not making permanent bases in Afghanistan.
  • However, Americans also want to keep pressure on terrorists - evidenced by the small majority favoring keeping troops in theater for training and anti-al Qaeda actions.
