Ipsos Core Political : Presidential Approval Tracker (03/09/2022)
Washington, DC, March 9, 2022 – This week’s Ipsos’ Core Political, fielded March 7-8, finds Americans remain most concerned about the economy and war and foreign conflict. President Joe Biden’s presidential approval rating remains stable. A separate Reuters/Ipsos poll also fielded March 7-8, 2022, finds that in light of the security crisis in Ukraine, Biden’s approval rating on his handling of Ukraine and Russia also holds steady.
Detailed Findings
Nearly a quarter of Americans believe the economy is the most important issue facing the country (24%), followed by 17% who believe it is war and foreign conflict, up 16 points from January. Despite rising gas prices, just 4% mention energy issues as a top issue.
One in three Republicans (29%) and independents (29%) believe the economy is the most important problem facing the U.S. today, with war and foreign conflict coming in at second place for both (17% and 15% respectively). Meanwhile, Democrats are more evenly split between concern over the economy (17%) and war/foreign conflict (18%), with the environment (10%) a distant third priority.
President Joe Biden’s approval rating remains statistically unchanged at 45% this week.
Four out of five (79%) Democrats approve of the way Joe Biden is handling his job as president, followed by one-third (34%) of independents, but only 16% of Republicans.
About the Study
These are some of the findings of an Ipsos poll conducted between March 7-8, 2022. For this survey, a sample of 1,005 Americans age 18+ from the continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii were interviewed online in English. The sample includes 430 Democrats, 369 Republicans, and 136 independents. Weighting was then employed to balance demographics to ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the adult population according to Census data and to provide results intended to approximate the sample universe. The precision of Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll is accurate to within ± 3.8 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, had all Americans been polled. The credibility interval will be wider among subsets of the population. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including but not limited to coverage error and measurement error. The poll also has a credibility interval of ± 5.8 percentage points for Democrats, ± 6.2 percentage points for Republicans, and ± 10.3 percentage points for independents.
