Laxalt (R) Has a Slight Lead Over Sisolak (D) in the Nevada Governor Race

Immigration cited as the strongest motivator to vote among likely voters

Washington, DC - Today, Ipsos released new election data in partnership with Reuters and the University of Virginia Center for Politics, showing that Republican Adam Laxalt (46%) holds a slight lead over Democrat Steve Sisolak (41%) in the Nevada Governor race among likely voters. In the Senate race, Republican Dean Heller (47%) holds a 6-point lead over Democrat Jacky Rosen (41%). Voters’ preference for a generic Republican matches the margin of the gubernatorial race, with voters also preferring a generic Republican (47%) by 5 percentage points over a generic Democrat (42%).

Likely voters are split down the middle over the way Donald Trump is handling his job as President, with 50% who approve as opposed to 49% who disapprove. Similarly, 50% of likely voters said they were motivated to vote for a candidate who will oppose President Trump, compared to 49% who said they were not. However, 68% of likely voters disapprove of the way Congress as a whole is handling its job.

The top issue in determining the vote in Nevada is immigration (21%). On this issue, 42% of likely voters feel that Laxalt has a better policy, as opposed to Sisolak (30%) between the candidates for Governor. Likely voters feel that Heller (43%) has the better policy as opposed to 33% who feel that Rosen has the better policy between candidates for the Senate.
