About the Study

The study was conducted October 2 - 15, 2024 by Ipsos, on behalf of Focus on The Family, using a weighted national sample of 3,808 adults (age 18 or older) living in all 50 US states and the District of Columbia selected from its nationwide, probability-based online research panel, KnowledgePanel. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is ±1.8 percentage points with a design effect of 1.25.(PCSI).

The sampling design consisted of an initial national general population sample of 3,301 U.S. adults (age 18 or older), along with an augment sample of 507 married, heterosexual U.S. adults (age 18 or older). As a result, the data for all screened respondents were first adjusted to the gender, age, race/ethnicity, Census region, metropolitan status, education, household income, and marital status distributions derived from the 2024 March Supplement of the Current Population Survey (CPS), as well as language proficiency using benchmarks from the 2022 American Community Survey.

Specific categories used in weighting were:

  • Gender (Male, Female) by Age (18-29, 30-44, 45-59, 60+) by (Married, Not married)
  • Race-Ethnicity (White/Non-Hispanic, Black/Non-Hispanic, Hispanic, Other/Non-Hispanic, 2+ Races/Non-Hispanic) by (Married, Not married)
  • Education (Less than High School, High School, Some College, Bachelor or higher) by (Married, Not married)
  • Census Region (Northeast, Midwest, South, West) by (Married, Not married)
  • Metropolitan Status (Metro, Non-Metro) by (Married, Not married)
  • Household Income (under $25K, $25-$49,999, $50K-$74,999, $75K-$99,999, $100K-$149,999, $150K and over) by (Married, Not married)
  • Language Proficiency (English Proficient Hispanic, Bilingual Hispanic, Spanish Proficient Hispanic, Non-Hispanic) by (Married, Not married)
  • Marital Status (Single and have never been married, Married, Separated, Divorced, Widowed)

Starting with this initial weight, the data for the total qualified sample were further adjusted by the aforementioned demographic benchmarks nested by the three subgroups: Married - Born Again Heterosexual Marriage, Married – Not Born Again Heterosexual Marriage, and Not Married.

Specific categories used were:

  • Gender (Male, Female) by each subgroup
  • Age (18-29, 30-44, 45-59, 60+) by each subgroup
  • Race-Ethnicity (White/Non-Hispanic, Black/Non-Hispanic, Hispanic, Other/Non-Hispanic, 2+ Races/Non-Hispanic) by each subgroup
  • Education (Less than High School, High School, Some College, Bachelor or higher) by each subgroup
  • Census Region (Northeast, Midwest, South, West) by each subgroup
  • Metropolitan Status (Metro, Non-Metro) by each subgroup
  • Household Income (under $25K, $25-$49,999, $50K-$74,999, $75K-$99,999, $100K-$149,999, $150K and over) by each subgroup
  • Language Proficiency (English Proficient Hispanic, Bilingual Hispanic, Spanish Proficient Hispanic, Non-Hispanic) by each subgroup
  • Marital Status (Single and have never been married, Married, Separated, Divorced, Widowed)
  • Gender (Male, Female) by Age (18-29, 30-44, 45-59, 60+) by (Married, Not married)
