Washington, DC, November 12, 2020 – The most recent Reuters/Ipsos Core Political survey finds that a majority of Americans continue to say the country is heading in the wrong direction. Americans remain split on what is the most important problem facing the nation. As President Donald Trump enters the lame-duck period, his approval rating among all Americans remains stable.
Just 22% of Americans believe the country is heading in the right direction, and 63% say the nation is off on the wrong track.
- Both Democratic registered voters (77%), Republican registered voters (50%) and independent registered voters (62%) are concerned the country is heading off on the wrong track.

The economy and jobs (31%), other key issues (18%), and healthcare (17%) remain the top concerns for many Americans.
- When citing other key issues as the most important problem (18%), most volunteer coronavirus and its related issues (economic and health). Other issues volunteered include partisanship, corruption, and racism.
- Republican registered voters are most likely to cite the economy and jobs as the biggest problems the country faces (37%), followed by other issues (17%), where many say coronavirus is the biggest problem. Healthcare is a top priority for just 9% of Republican registered voters.
- Democratic registered voters are most likely to say healthcare (28%) is the biggest issue, followed by the economy and jobs (24%), and other issues (21%), where coronavirus is most commonly volunteered as the biggest problem.

About two in five Americans approve of how Donald Trump is handling his position as president (39%).
- Trump continues to receive overwhelming support from his base of Republican registered voters, where 84% say they approve of the job he is doing.
- On the other hand, just 6% of Democratic registered voters approve of how Trump is doing his job, significantly less than their Republican counterparts.
- About one-third of independent registered voters (32%) approve of Trump’s job performance.

About the Study
These are some of the findings of an Ipsos poll conducted between November 6-10, 2020 on behalf of Thomson Reuters. For this survey, a sample of 1,363 Americans age 18+ from the continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii were interviewed online in English. The sample includes 1,169 registered voters, 541 Democratic registered voters, 474 Republican registered voters, and 123 independent registered voters. Weighting was then employed to balance demographics to ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the adult population according to Census data and to provide results intended to approximate the sample universe. The precision of Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll is accurate to within ± 3.0 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, had all Americans been polled. The credibility interval will be wider among subsets of the population. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error, and measurement error. The poll also has a credibility interval of ± 3.3 percentage points for all registered voters, ± 4.8 percentage points for Democratic registered voters, ± 5.1 percentage points for Republican registered voters, and ± 10.1 percentage points for independent registered voters.
