Washington DC - After a week of promoting his infrastructure and budget proposals, President Trump’s approval rating stands at 39% among all Americans, one percentage point down from the previous week (40%). Trump’s approval among Independents stands at (39%). Democrats (9%) and Republicans (82%) continue to give the President their respective low and high marks of approval.
As the Senate continues working on an immigration bill, the number of Americans who think that immigration is the most important problem facing the US today declined from 13% last week to 9% this week. The top three most important issues are healthcare (16%), the economy in general (14%), and terrorism (10%).
Following the controversy surrounding Chief of Staff John F. Kelly, 17% of Americans think that he will be the next to resign or be terminated from the White House staff, up 8% since last week. Jeff Sessions continues to lead the Ipsos HW-Exit poll, with 18% of Americans believing that he will be then next one out of the executive branch.
When asked if the 2018 midterm election were held today, Democrats continue to hold their lead against Republicans with a 9% advantage. 39% of Americans would vote for the Democratic candidate, while only 30% of Americans would choose the Republican candidate.
About the Study
These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters February 9-13, 2018. For the survey, a sample of 1,515 Americans, including 646 Democrats, 534 Republicans, 192 Independents ages 18+ were interviewed online. The precision of the Reuters/Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll has a credibility interval of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points for all adults, 4.4 percentage points for Democrats, 4.8 percentage points for Republicans, 8.1 percentage points for Independents. The data were weighted to the U.S. current population data by gender, age, education, and ethnicity. Statistical margins of error are not applicable to online polls.
