2016 US Elections - Hillary Clinton Still Maintains Her General Election Lead (July 7)

Barack Obama’s approval rating ticked up to 51% this week on the last Ipsos/Reuters Poll.

Political Trends

A quarter of Americans (24%) believe that the country is heading in the right direction. Partisan identification directly impacts perceptions of the country with Democrats (43%) much more likely than Republicans (10%) to believe the country is heading in the right direction.

 

General Election Matchups

Hillary Clinton still maintains her general election lead at 44% to Donald Trump’s 33% among registered voters nationwide.

  • With two days of interviewing post FBI announcement, Clinton’s unfavorable ratings have ticked up to 55% unfavorable to 45% favorable.

 

General Election Matchups Full Ballot

In the 4-way ballot including Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Jill Stein, the overall picture is relatively similar to the 2-way ballot. Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 9 points among registered voters, 42% to 33%.

 

  • The two third party candidates cumulatively attract the support 10% of registered voters with Johnson at 6% and Stein at 4%.

 

Generic Congressional Ballot

In our generic congressional ballot question, generic Democratic candidates continue to hold a sizable advantage nationwide at 46% to 35.

 

These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters July 2-6, 2016. For the survey, a sample of 1,543 Americans ages 18+ were interviewed online.
