2017 US Politics - Trump’s Job Approval Rose Slightly: 40% (June 14)

In the latest Reuters/Ipsos Core Political, President Trump has an approval rating of 40% among all Americans.

The latest Ipsos/Reuters Core Political was released today. The key findings are below. 

Trends

Terrorism (17%) and healthcare (18%) are top priorities for Americans, nearly tied for most important problem facing the US today. Following closely is the economy generally, with 12% saying it’s the most important problem.

  • Democrats are far more likely to be concerned about healthcare than Republicans and Independents (23% vs 14% vs 17%, respectively), while a quarter of Republicans are prioritizing terrorism (25%) compared to roughly one-in-ten Democrats (11%).

The number of Americans who say the country is on the wrong track is relatively unchanged from last week. However, a significant number of Independents are now more confident in the direction of the country, with the number saying the country is off on the wrong track down by 9 percentage points from last week (now 55%).

Approval

President Trump’s job approval rose slightly this week, now at 40% approve and 56% disapprove.

On specific job attributes, Trump’s approval has changed little from last week. His highest approval comes from his handling of employment and jobs (49%), dealing with ISIS/ISIL (49%), and the general handling of the US economy (47%). 

  • Similar to previous weeks, Trump struggles most with his approval on the way he treats people like me (37%), the environment (38%), corruption (39%) and healthcare reform (39%).
These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters June 9-13, 2017 For the survey, a sample of 1,492 Americans, ages 18+ were interviewed online.
