2018 US Politics - Americans Continue to View Healthcare as the Most Important Problem Facing the US Today (May 23)
President Trump’s approval rating remains steady: 45% of all Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job as President. Registered voters are slightly more likely to approve of Trump’s performance (47%). Not surprisingly, approval ratings vary by party registration: 16% of Democrats, four in five Republicans (80%) and 44% of Independent voters approve of Trump’s job performance.
Democrats (38%) continue to lead the 2018 generic congressional ballot question with a 5-point lead over Republicans (33%). Democrats' lead is slightly less among registered voters, where 40% would chose the Democratic candidate compared to 37% for the Republican candidate. Independents are evenly split, with 23% choosing a Democrat and 22% choosing a Republican.
Americans continue to view healthcare as the most important problem facing the US today (17%). The second most important issue is morality (13%), followed by the economy generally (11%). Americans continue to give Trump high marks when it comes to employment and jobs (60%), the US economy (59%) and dealing with ISIS/ISIL (59%). Forty-two percent of Americans approve of his handling of healthcare reform.
Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, climbs back to the number one spot in our Wh’Exit poll, with almost one in five Americans believing he will be the next White Hour or Executive Branch staff member to resign or be terminated (19%). Scott Pruitt, the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and John F. Kelly, the White House Chief of Staff, are tied for second place, with 12% of Americans believing they will be the next ones out.
