2018 US Politics - President Trump’s Approval Rating has Remained Steady for the Last Several Weeks (April 4)
President Trump’s approval rating has remained steady for the last several weeks, with 39% of all Americans and 41% of registered voters approving of the job he is doing as President. President Trump’s approval rating is divided by party lines, with 80% of Republicans, 36% of Independents, and just 10% of Democrats approving of Trump’s performance. Looking at his approval ratings on a state-by-state basis, much of the country held steady, with very little movement up or down. However, Trump’s overall approval in Idaho and Alabama has increased since February 2018.
Looking ahead to the November Congressional election, Democrats (43%) continue to lead Republicans (34%) when registered voters are asked if they would vote for the Democrat or Republican candidate if the election were held today. Just one-fifth of registered voters (21%) approve of the way Congress is handling their job as a whole, while 44% of the registered voters approve of their individual representative’s job performance. Registered Republicans are most likely to approve of Congress as a whole (31%) and their individual representatives’ performance (52%) than Democrats (13% and 41%, respectively) or Independents (16% and 40%, respectively).
Healthcare (18%) and terrorism (13%) continue to take to be the top two biggest problems facing Americans. Partisans have different perspectives on what the most important issue is, with Democrats perceiving healthcare (23%) as the biggest problem, and Republicans believing terrorism (17%) is the biggest problem. Republicans are three times as likely to view immigration (15%) as a problem compared to Democrats (4%). Currently, 38% of all Americans approve of Trump’s handling of healthcare reform, and 42% approve of his handling of immigration.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions (17%) continues to top the list of White House staff members who will be next in line to resign or be fired. Chief of Staff John F. Kelly (14%) and Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos (13%) are in the second and third spot, respectively.
