Taking Responsibility - Ancient Traditions Meet New Educational Opportunities

Last week we focused on the award made by the Ipsos Foundation to build a new library in Flores Island, Indonesia. This week we can show you how this project is progressing. You will see from the photographs that construction work has started and is going well. A Meletak bau pertama ritual has been performed at the construction site aimed at protecting the library and those that are working to build it. The ritual is asking permission to the ancestors to use their land to build the library. Old versus new, the ancient traditions are meeting new educational opportunities, and the establishment of a new library will also provide a social and cultural focus for the community.

Additional funds have been raised locally and it is hoped that a second library can also be built in the area.
