In South Africa, the 18th July, Nelson Mandela's birthday, is commemorated nation-wide by social responsibility acts of 67 minutes each. This year, Ipsos participated in a Soup Day initiative.
Ipsos raised the funds from staff and from the company to purchase soup ingredients, party packs and general day-to-day supplies for a reading, playing and feeding scheme for underprivileged children called Phuthaditshaba Centre, in Alexandra, an informal settlement in Johannesburg.
On the day, staff volunteers travelled to the feeding scheme to give the children soup as well as spend some time with them. It was a great initiative with much support from the teams and there will be an ongoing drive to collect items for this scheme going forward.
Richard Silman, Head of the Ipsos CSR programme, says: "That this is another wonderful example of what our teams are doing across the world which allows Ipsos locally to support over 160 charities with fund raising and volunteering, and is a very important addition to the work of the Ipsos Foundation."
