Bosses In Huntingdonshire Say Yes To Alconbury Plans
Two-thirds of local businesses support plans for a freight distribution centre on the Alconbury Airfield site.
In the first independent survey of its kind on this issue, bosses in Huntingdonshire expressed overwhelming support for the redevelopment of the airfield as proposed by Alconbury Developments Limited (ADL).
- Sixty-five per cent of local business owners and managers believe ADL's plans will benefit local companies.
- More than half of those who support the proposals cited an increase in jobs for local people and greater local prosperity as reasons for their support.
- Support among local business for the redevelopment outweighs opposition by a factor of more than three to one - 66% support it with only 20% opposing.
ADL Project Director Ian Hudson said: "this independent survey gives voice to the silent majority who support our plans. ADL's proposals will bring jobs and prosperity to Huntingdon and the surrounding communities and this survey shoes that local businesses back our development."
"We commissioned the research as, previously, there had been accusations that local firms did not support our proposals, this research dismisses that view. Businesses have given a clear thumbs-up to our plans."
Huntingdonshire District Council meets on 17 February to decide whether or not to approve ADL's plans for the development of Alconbury Airfield.
