Capital concerns: The housing crisis in London

Housing is now the number one ‘top of mind’ issue for Londoners. In our latest research, conducted with London Councils, 54% of residents living in the capital spontaneously mention housing as among the most important issues facing London, an increase of 17 percentage points since 2013, displacing transport and the economy (now just 22%) as the most cited issues.

While housing still lags behind immigration, the NHS and the economy as an issue for Britons more widely, it is growing in the national consciousness, too. Twenty per cent see it as among the most important issues facing Britain today – its highest level since 1974 according to Ipsos’s latest monthly Issues Index.
