Economic concerns remain the most important issues facing Britons

Inflation and the economy remain top concerns for Britons according to the June 2023 Ipsos Issues Index

The June 2023 Ipsos Issues Index shows inflation and the economy remain top concerns for Britons.

Thirty-eight per cent of the British public see inflation and prices as a big concern for the country, unchanged since last month. The economy remains the second-biggest issue for Britons, mentioned by 31%, although it has seen a decrease of four percentage points since May. 

Just over a quarter (27%) see the NHS as one of the most important issues facing Britain, a similar level to that recorded in May. 

Immigration remains the fourth biggest issue facing the country, rising four points since May to 21%. Concern remains significantly higher among Conservative supporters (42%) and older Britons (29% of those aged 55+).

Technical note

Ipsos' Issues Index is conducted monthly and provides an overview of the key issues concerning the country. Ipsos interviewed a representative sample of 1,061 adults aged 18+ across Great Britain. The answers are spontaneous responses, and participants are not prompted with any answers. 

Ipsos’ telephone omnibus was used for this survey. Interviews were conducted between 7 and 13 June 2023. Data are weighted to match the profile of the population. All polls are subject to a wide range of potential sources of error.
