This report contains the findings of the Annual Patient and Public Survey 2014 carried out by Ipsos for the General Dental Council (the UK-wide dental regulator). The study was designed to capture and track patient and public awareness and perceptions of the General Dental Council and to provide insight into key and emerging policy areas. The 2014 survey followed previous surveys in 2011, 2012 and 2013, using the same methodology – a representative, face-to-face survey with c.1600 people in the UK. The 2014 study also included qualitative telephone interviews with eight members of the public. The qualitative element complemented the quantitative work as it allowed for a more exploratory approach, providing an in-depth understanding of some of the topics covered and further insights into underlying attitudes highlighted by the survey.

Technical Note: The Annual Survey questions were placed on the Ipsos Capibus survey, a weekly face to face omnibus survey of a representative sample of adults aged 15 and over in Great Britain. Fieldwork took place between 07 and 20 November 2014. A total of 1,540 people were interviewed via Capibus in Great Britain, with 100 also interviewed in Northern Ireland, giving a total sample size of 1,640. Quotas were set and data weighted to ensure a nationally representative sample of adults aged 15 and over in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
