Ipsos and Apella Advisors event: Labour and Business – how will public opinion shape the party's approach?

On Tuesday 19 March at the Ipsos and Apella Advisors event: Labour and Business – how will public opinion shape the party's approach?, we shared some polling Labour supporter attitudes to business.

Britons were asked about their views on various issues impacting business today in an event we held with Apella Advisors. The data suggests that there is public permission for a more interventionist Labour Government – from its supporters at least. Nearly half (48%) of Labour voters say Government should set stricter rules for business on issues like workers’ rights and the environment. In contrast, one in five (21%) believe in cutting red tape to allow companies to grow and create jobs.

It is also clear than demands for ESG responsibilities are here to stay. For example, 46% of Labour voters say more focus should be put on protecting the environment, even if that harms economic growth.

Technical note

Ipsos interviewed a representative quota sample of 1,099 adults aged 18-75 in Great Britain. Interviews took place on the online Omnibus 8th – 11th March 2024. Data has been weighted to the known offline population proportions. All polls are subject to a wide range of potential sources of error.
