Ipsos appointed to conduct evaluation of the UK Government's flagship TechFirst programme
Ipsos has been appointed by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to deliver evaluation activity for TechFirst, the government's flagship programme designed to expand technology and AI skills opportunities across the UK. The work will support understanding of the programme's implementation, reach and impacts as TechFirst is rolled out nationwide.
Launched in 2025, TechFirst is a £187 million investment aimed at helping people of all ages develop the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven economy. The programme brings together a range of initiatives designed to inspire young people, support students and researchers, and strengthen local technology ecosystems and workforce development across the UK.
TechFirst forms a key part of the government's ambition to equip the UK workforce with the skills needed for the opportunities created by advances in AI and digital technologies. The programme aims to reach one million secondary school students and support thousands of graduates, researchers and innovators as they progress into careers in critical technology sectors.
Through its evaluation work, Ipsos will generate evidence to help understand how different elements of TechFirst are being delivered and experienced by participants and stakeholders. The research will explore programme implementation and impacts, drawing on insight from learners, education partners, employers and delivery organisations. Findings from the evaluation activity will help inform ongoing learning about how best to support participation and progression in technology and AI-related education, training and careers as the programme develops.
