Public think Rishi Sunak slightly more likely to win a General Election than Liz Truss
On face value these numbers lend some credence to the idea that Rishi Sunak might fare better in a General Election than Liz Truss in the sense that the public are more likely to think he would win an election. However 19% said both were equally likely to win. When it comes to Keir Starmer, the public are split on whether a Labour government led by him would do a better job than a Conservative government led by Boris Johnson - 35% said it would do a better job, 33% say worse.

Focus on cost of living and public services Britons ask Sunak and Truss
One of the key challenges facing the next Prime Minister will be delivering on public priorities like the cost of living crisis. The top two subjects the public want the candidates to focus on are the rising cost of living (58%) and public services such as the NHS and schools (42%). Amongst those voting Conservative in 2019, group immigration and border security was also among top concerns at (53%).

Three-quarters of Britons believe the UK is already experiencing an economic recession
The current view of the British economy has been getting steadily more pessimistic and it's unsurprising to see that three-quarters of Britons believe the UK is already experiencing an economic recession. Even among those who don’t know if we’re in a recession, half expect it to happen at the end of 2022.

Long waiting lists/times seen as biggest issue facing the NHS
As public services remain under pressure, the public are clear on the challenges currently facing the NHS. Around 6 in 10 say they are most concerned about long waiting lists/times, increasing to 78% of 55-75-year olds. Other concerning issues facing the NHS include a lack of staff and poor pay for NHS staff. While the public have faith in the quality of care provided by the NHS, they are worried about being able to access that care when they need it.
