The Royal Pharmaceutical Society commissioned Ipsos to examine the Scottish public’s perceptions of pharmacy services. Key findings include:

  • 95% of Scottish adults aged 16+ felt it was important that pharmacists refer people to other health services, advise on medicines, and provide advice and services to prevent ill health.
  • This was followed by 89% saying it is important that pharmacists are the first point of contact for common clinical conditions and 87% saying it is important that pharmacists prescribe medicines.
  • Furthermore, 81% felt it was important that pharmacists monitor, review and adjust medicines for long-term conditions such as blood pressure.

Technical note

  • Survey data was collected by Ipsos’ Scottish Opinion Monitor on behalf of The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
  • Ipsos MORI interviewed a representative sample of 1,107 adults aged 16+ across Scotland.
  • Interviews were conducted by telephone 22 – 29 November 2021.
  • Data are weighted to the profile of the adult population.
  • Where percentages do not sum to 100% this may be due to computer rounding, the exclusion of “don’t know” categories, or multiple answers.
