HR and benefits leaders say employee wellbeing is more important to their company since 2020
With companies facing volatility and uncertainty in the form of inflation, fears of economic shocks, an ongoing pandemic, workforce erosion and international conflict, it would be reasonable to think that well-being initiatives and strategies could decrease in importance and priority.
A growing body of evidence points to a positive relationship between employee wellbeing and productivity and documents it as a causal effect: A healthy and happy workforce is a more productive workforce. Aon, a leading global professional service firm and a thought leader on health and wellbeing, partnered with Ipsos to develop a global survey to assess and address wellbeing as a performance strategy.
In this survey of human resources and benefits leaders from more than 1,100 companies across 46 countries, Aon aimed to assess how client culture, environment, leadership, business goals and demographics tie in with wellbeing and company performance, align business level strategy with national and global health & wellbeing objectives and establish global and regional market trends across wellbeing dimensions related to business performance.
Key Findings
- 75% globally say that employee wellbeing is important at their company, with the Africa & Middle East (82%), Latin America (80%), and Europe (80%) regions being most likely to say so.
- The majority of companies globally have both a wellbeing initiative in place (87%) and a wellbeing strategy (83%). Additionally, 40% report their wellbeing programs are performing exceptionally or above average, with the best results in the Africa and Middle East region (53%), followed by the Asian Pacific region (46%).
- About two in five companies globally (41%), have fully integrated their wellbeing strategy into their overall business and human capital strategy. Companies in Latin America and the Africa and Middle East regions are most likely to have fully integrated their wellbeing strategy with their overall performance strategy (48% each).

About this study
These are the results of an AON survey conducted by Ipsos between August 31 and November 14, 2022 among 1,138 human resources and benefits leaders across 46 countries. The Aon Connect database as well as a panel of human resource representatives were the sources for this sample. The Aon connect database is represented by 190 countries and over 500,000 contacts.
