Ipsos CASH Index Readers Aware Of The Latest Trends In Consumer Sentiment
Ipsos National CASH Index Rose Slightly At The End Of June, And Now Stands At 83.3
- Reuters reported on June 24, 2003: The Conference Board's monthly consumer confidence index stood at 83.5, marginally down from 83.6 in May, but outstripping market expectations for a fall to 82.4. In response, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 46.50 points in early trading.
- On June 10, 2003, CASH readers were aware that consumer confidence was holding steady, as the Index increased marginally from 79.9 to 81.4, ending a month of declines in May.
- Associated Press reported on June 13, 2003: Michigan's widely watched index of consumer sentiment fell to 87.2 in mid-June from May's reading of 92.1. The reading was far below the level of 93 that market watchers had been expecting. The Dow closed down 79.43, or 0.9 percent, at 9,117.12.
- On May 13, 2003, CASH readers were already aware that consumer sentiment was trending downward. The Ipsos National CASH Index decreased 2.2 points in mid-May, and another 6.7 points at the end of May.

In addition, Ipsos constructs regional and demographic CASH Indexes four times per year (at the end of each fiscal quarter), as well as preliminary indices (produced at the mid-point of each fiscal quarter). Ipsos CASH Index Surveys of consumers are conducted by Ipsos-Public Affairs, the Washington, D.C.-based division of Ipsos, which is the world's second largest polling and market research organization. The Ipsos Consumer Attitudes and Spending by Household (CASH) Index polls are conducted the first and third week of every month, as part of Ipsos-Public Affairs weekly omnibus polling service. The Ipsos CASH Index, started in January 2002, is a bimonthly national survey of consumer attitudes on the current and future state of the local economy, personal financial situation and spending, saving and confidence to invest.
