Washington, D.C.- A new Ipsos poll conducted on behalf of Reuters found that 35% of Americans believe climate change is an imminent threat to the United States, and 21% believe that it is a serious threat. Just 19% believe that climate change poses a minimal threat or no threat at all to the United States. A majority of Americans also support the United States working with other countries to limit global warming. The poll also found that 80% of Americans would be willing to do their part to reduce global warming by doing things such as buying locally grown produce and using their air conditioner less. 

About this Study

These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters between November 29-December 10, 2018. For the survey, a sample of 4,660 Americans ages 18+ were interviewed online. The precision of the Reuters/Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll has a credibility interval of plus or minus 1.6 percentage points for all adults. The data were weighted to the U.S. current population data by gender, age, education, and ethnicity. Statistical margins of error are not applicable to online polls. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error and measurement error. Figures marked by an asterisk (*) indicate a percentage value of greater than zero but less than one half of one per cent. Where figures do not sum to 100, this is due to the effects of rounding.
