Political Trends

The economy continues to be the #1 issue for Americans with Jobs, Healthcare and Terrorism tied for second:

  • The dominance of the economy as the #1 issue has declined over the last week, from 23% on 5/11 to 18% in 5/18.

 

Democratic Primary

Hillary Clinton continues to lead with national Democratic registered voters, currently with 52% vs. Bernie Sanders at 43%.

 

General Election Matchups

The general election race has narrowed between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Clinton (41%) continues to lead Trump (36%) among registered voters. Since last week the race has essentially held steady:

  • Both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have seen their “favorable” numbers improve over the last week. Trump, particularly, has seen favorable impressions of him improve since the midst of the Republican primary

 

These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters May 14-18, 2016. For the survey, a sample of 1,677 Americans ages 18+ were interviewed online.
