Clinton now leads Trump by just 4 points among registered voters (40% vs. 36%) on the last Ipsos/Reuters Poll.

General Election Matchups

Clinton’s favorability among registered voters has declined to 46%, while Trump’s has improved, moving up into the 40s at 43%.

General Election Matchups Full Ballot

The inclusion of Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Party Candidate Jill Stein on the ballot does not change the overall lead: Clinton remains 4 points ahead (39% vs 35%), with Johnson at 7% and Stein at 3%.

Generic Congressional Ballot

In our generic congressional ballot question, generic Democratic candidates continue to hold a sizable advantage nationwide at 45% to 34%, although this has declined in recent weeks.

Other Political Trends

President Barack’s Obama approval rating has dropped a few points and is now at 44% approval vs. 49% disapprove.

  • It also appears that recent events like the bombing in Baghdad as well as shooting events in Dallas and Baton Rouge have the country concerned; like the spikes in concern about terrorism measured after attacks in France and Orlando, we are seeing a jump now in concern regarding threats posed by terrorism (currently at 24%). As is often the case, concern about the economy declines at a similar rate.

These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters July 16-20, 2016. For the survey, a sample of 1,522 Americans ages 18+ were interviewed online.
