2016 US Elections - Clinton’s Lead Has Grown Even More, Democrat Leads by 12 Points (August 11)
“Trump may be showing the limits of the axiom ‘all press is good press’,” said Chris Jackson, VP at Ipsos. “While Donald Trump is dominating the media cycle, it is not helping his standing in our polls. With the public viewing Trump as unfavorably as ever (while Clinton enjoys a moment of relative positive regard), the Republican nominee has lost ground to his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll.
GENERAL ELECTION MATCHUP
Clinton’s lead among likely voters has expanded to 6 points (42% Clinton to 36% Trump), up from 4 points last week. Clinton’s lead among registered voters has grown even more, now the Democrat leads by 12 points (44% to 32%), up from 8 points last week.
In the 4-way ballot including Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Jill Stein, the overall picture is relatively similar to the 2-way ballot: Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 5 points (40% vs 35%) among Likely Voters and 11 (42% vs 31%) points among Registered Voters.
Candidate favorability scores tell the story of the last few weeks. Two weeks ago (Aug 29) Clinton and Trump were equally unfavorably viewed (by 57% of the public each). Since then, Clinton’s favorability has improved while Trump’s has gotten worse so that now, Clinton’s public favorability is 12 points better than Trump.
