2016 US Elections - The Race Between Clinton and Trump is Essentially Unchanged (June 9)

Barack Obama’s approval rating slides to 49% this week. But, this is the third week in a row where the President’s approval rating has (narrowly) exceeded his disapproval rating on the last Ipsos/Reuters Poll.

Democratic Primary

In the last week of the Democratic Primary, Hillary Clinton continues to lead Bernie Sanders among Democratic registered voters nationwide, at 53% to 42%.

 

General Election Matchups

In the first week of the unofficial, official general election, the race between Clinton and Donald Trump is essentially unchanged. Clinton continues to lead by 8 points, at 42% to Trump’s 34% among registered voters nationwide:

  • Donald Trump’s favorability numbers have held steady this week. However his favorability remains upside down with 40% of registered voters viewing the Republican nominee favorably to 60% unfavorably
  • Hillary Clinton has improved favorability numbers this week with her numbers closing to 48% favorable / 52% unfavorable

 

These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters June 4-8, 2016. For the survey, a sample of 1,716 Americans ages 18+ were interviewed online.
