Just one third of Americans (35%) report that America is on the right track. Republicans (66%) are most likely to report that things are moving in the right direction, compared to Independents (33%) and Democrats (13%).
Americans remain split on the biggest issue facing the country, but healthcare (20%) and immigration (15%) remain at the top of the list. Healthcare is a bigger concern for Democrats (28%) and Independents (18%) than it is for Republicans (14%). Republicans continue to report that immigration (27%) is what they perceive as the biggest problem facing the country today. Comparatively, Democrats (7%) and Independents (10%) are not as concerned with the issue of immigration. When asked about how Trump is handling specific policy issues, just 40% of Americans report approving of his handling of healthcare reform, and 45% approve of his handling of immigration.
Congress as a whole is enjoying a slight bump of approval among all Americans this week, up 4 points to 30%. Americans consistently are more likely to approve of their individual representative, and this week is no different, with 45% of all Americans approving of the job their individual representative is doing. About half of Democrats (47%) and Republicans (51%) approve of their representatives’ work, while just 35% of Independents feel the same.
