2018 US Politics - Democrats Continue to Lead the Generic Ballot Question this Week (June 13)

President Trump’s approval rating stands at 41% this week among all Americans and 43% among registered voters. Most of our interviews were conducted before the “agreement” of the Singapore summit was announced, although our daily partial data indicates a small uptick in Trump’s job approval.

Democrats continue to lead the generic ballot question this week, with 40% of all Americans reporting that they would vote for a Democratic candidate if the November congressional elections were held today, compared to just 31% of Americans who report that they would vote for a Republican. The numbers are similar for registered voters, with 45% reporting they would support a Democrat compared to 35% who would support a Republican.

Healthcare remains at the top of the list of major problems facing America today – with 18% reporting it as the biggest problem in America. Continuing the trend of the last several weeks, economy generally (12%), immigration (11%), and terrorism (10%) round out the top four major issues facing America.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions (18%) continues to top the Reuters/Ipsos Wh’Exit poll, which asks Americans who they believe will be the next to quit or be fired from the White House. Administrator of the EPA, Scott Pruitt is not far behind Mr. Sessions, with 16% reporting that he will be next to go. Americans perceive other staff members as relatively safe.

These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters June 8-12, 2018. For the survey, a sample of 2,373 Americans, including 2,018 registered voters, 904 Democrats, 793 Republicans, and 229 Independents ages 18+ were interviewed online.
