Public Perceptions of Policing in England and Wales 2017

A research report for Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) provides insights into current perceptions of crime, safety and local police, along with public interactions with the police.

Ipsos was commissioned by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) to undertake a large-scale online survey of the public to assess current perceptions of policing. It follows surveys conducted in 2015 and 2016 and the methodology has been kept consistent to ensure valid comparisons over time. A sample of 12,662 people aged 16+ across England and Wales took part in the survey between July and August 2017. The findings have informed HMIC's PEEL Assessments. The survey provides insights into current perceptions of crime, safety and local police, along with public interactions with the police.
