Reliability in Peru's Regional and Municipal Elections 2018
On Sunday October 7th, the municipal and regional elections were held in Peru, and Ipsos in Peru's team managed to unfold a wide-ranging coverage of the event.
As always, the coverage started on the previous day of the election, as the team applied a survey on which electors were asked about their vote intention. Broadcasting (via media and press) results during the previous seven days of the election is forbidden in Peru, therefore, the poll results were considered confidential, and were only shared with our client and opinion leaders list. The confidential poll carried out, anticipated in a very precise way the official results of the elections.
On the day of the elections, the broadcasting of the polls started at 4:00pm, time at which the exit polls are traditionally shared on national television, via América Television, one of the largest national television channels. Later that evening, quick count results followed. On that day, Ipsos in Peru successfully completed the coverage for a total of 94 elections within the country, including all the country’s regions, some provinces and all the districts within Lima, the capital city.
Ipsos Peru's coverage also included real-time activity on social media, as poll results were tweeted and shared on Facebook as they were being broadcasted on television. This resulted in over two million people reached through the company's social media accounts.
The impact caused by the coverage was evidenced the day after the elections, as four of the largest newspapers in the country included Ipsos Peru’s numbers in their front pages and headlines, reflecting Ipsos polls’ closeness to the official results.
Voting intention polls for this year’s elections had been carried out since the month of April, to be able to construct historic data. Once again, Ipsos' independence and professional reliability allowed for a complete and outstanding coverage of the country's elections.
