Taking Responsibility - A Vital Lifeline for Children in South Sudan
Earlier this year the Ipsos Foundation donated to Mary’s Meals to help support their work in South Sudan. Since the beginning of 2017 parts of South Sudan have been experiencing a famine following several years of instability in the country's food supply caused by war and drought. The famine has been estimated to affect almost five million people (about 50% of the South Sudanese population).
Mary’s Meals delivers nutritious and much-needed school meals to 18,000 children in 33 schools in the Diocese of Rumbek, South Sudan. These meals play a vital part in keeping the schools open and ensure that the children get at least one meal each school day, allowing them to concentrate and keep learning. A recent report from Mary’s Meals to the Ipsos Foundation quoted Moses Kopurot Kenyi, Education Coordinator with the Diocese of Rumbek – “I know that without Mary’s Meals, there would be no hope for thousands of children in this region”.
The work that Mary’s Meals is doing in South Sudan is very much within the Ipsos Foundation’s mission to “help disadvantaged children with education”.
