Family and finances have the biggest impact on Britons’ happiness

The new Ipsos Happiness Index finds a third (32%) of Britons identify their relationships with family as having the biggest impact on how happy they feel.

The new Ipsos Happiness Index finds for a third (32%) of Britons it is their relationships with family that has the biggest impact on how happy they feel. Our finances also play a big role in how happy we feel, with 27% of people saying their finances have the biggest impact, followed by their romantic relationships (26%).

A third of Brits say their relationship with their family has had the most impact on how happy they have felt over the past month, followed by a quarter who said their financial situation and their romantic relationship(s)

The Index also shows that three quarters of Britons (76%) felt happy about their relationships with family when asked in May 2023.  With seven in ten (69%) saying they were happy with their home/housing conditions, 66% saying they are happy with their friendships, 61% with what they do for entertainment and 61% happy with their lives in general.

Technical note

Ipsos surveyed a representative sample of 1,074 British adults aged 18-75, conducted online between 5-6 May 2023. Data are weighted to match the profile of the population. All polls are subject to a wide range of potential sources of error.
