Highland Council Staff Survey 2010
This was the fifth survey of staff opinion in Highland Council. The results show further improvement in the performance of line managers, particularly in terms of supporting performance improvement. Communications also strengthen, although the recent economic downturn and re-grading exercise have damaged the sense of job security and, for some, a sense of fairness in the levels of pay. A presentation to the council accompanied a full written report and computer analysis. A newsletter was distributed to staff, illustrating the findings, and services are developing their own action plans.
Technical details All staff were included in this study, including teachers. Respondents could take part by completing either a paper or an online version of the questionnaire. Of the 12,182 paper questionnaires or online invitations issued, a total of 4,416 valid responses were returned, representing an overall response rate of 36.3%. The response rate among those sent an online invitation was 64%. Fieldwork took place between 22 February and 8 April 2010.
