Ipsos leading a major programme of work to enhance the evidence base of what works to improve adult numeracy skills
Empowering adults through numeracy: Ipsos' commitment to evidence-based practice
At Ipsos, we are committed to generating research and evidence that has a positive impact on society. Our recent work with the Department for Education (DfE) on the Multiply Education Research Trials is testament to this commitment. This ambitious and high-profile programme of work will contribute to improving the lives and livelihoods of people across the UK through advancement of the evidence base of what works in improving adult skills.
The numeracy challenge and its impact
The OECD reports that one in four adults in England have poor numeracy skills. This deficit holds people back in various aspects of life, including employment prospects, job quality, earnings, and overall wellbeing. Participation in adult learning has been declining in recent years and there is a lack of robust evidence of what works in improving adult skills.
Multiply: A collaborative effort for progress
The Multiply Education Research trials will test the effectiveness of different types of teaching methods and approaches, generating high quality evidence to inform future policy for the adult education sector.
The trials are funded by the Department for Education through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Ipsos is delivering this programme of work in partnership with leading experts from King’s College London, the Learning and Work Institute, the Institute for Employment Studies and RAND Europe. We are also working closely with Tribal Education who are recruiting adult education organisations to take part in the trials.
Join us in shaping a brighter future
The trials will take place during the 2024/25 academic year and aim to engage around 20,000 learners across England. We invite adult education organisations who are passionate about contributing to building the evidence base to participate in the trials. This includes Adult Education Colleges, Independent Learning Providers, Employers, Local Authorities, Combined Authorities, Community Organisations and Primary Schools.
We are particularly interested in hearing from adult education organisations who deliver GCSE maths, Level 1 Functional Skills Maths, Level 2 Health and Social Care and Family Learning programmes to adults (aged 19+).
This programme offers a unique opportunity for your organisation to be at the centre of a high-profile, large-scale Government study that will generate a step change in the evidence base and help to shape future policy for adult education.
