Ipsos's latest survey for the Nuclear Industry Association shows favourable opinion of the nuclear energy industry climbing to 40% with just 17% unfavourable.

Women, as well as men, are more likely to be favourable than unfavourable towards the industry for the first time in our series of surveys (since 1998). At the same time, support for replacement newbuild of nuclear power stations has risen to 47% while opposition is stable at 19%.

Seven in ten of the public agree that "Britain needs a mix of energy sources to ensure a reliable supply of electricity, including nuclear power and renewable energy sources".

Technical details

Ipsos interviewed face-to-face a nationally representative sample of 1,980 adults aged 16+ in 170 sampling points across Great Britain in the period 5-14 November 2010. Interviews were carried out on our Capibus omnibus survey and the data weighted to represent the 16+ population of Great Britain.
