Spine chilling key findings

  • Spooky Britain: Over half (57%) of Britons say that they are scared about the way things are going in the UK at the moment (17% very scared, 39% fairly). Just 10% say that they are reassured. 7 in 10 Reform voters and Greens are scared. Reflecting why those parties might be gaining support lately.
  • Farage considered the scariest politician: When asked which UK politician is the scariest, four in ten (40%) Britons say Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. He is followed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer (29%). 6 in 10 2024 Labour, Greens and Lib Dems think Farage is scary. 7 in 10 2024 Reform voters think Starmer is scary.
  • Trick or political treats: Ipsos also asked Britons what Halloween treats British politicians would hand out to trick-or-treaters.
    • Nigel Farage: With 11% thinking he’ll dish out full-sized chocolate bars, is Farage the 'king-size' of scares?
    • Keir Starmer: 12% suspect sneakily small chocolates. Perhaps he’s hiding a mummy’s curse?
    • Zack Polanski: Britons associate the Green party leader with ghastly healthy options such as fruit (12%) or muesli/health bars (11%). Boo-hoo?

Technical note

  • Ipsos interviewed 1,100 adults aged 16-75 across the spooky grounds of Great Britain between the 17th-21st October 2025 through online bubbles of cauldrons and digital wands.
  • Data are weighted with spells to match the bewitched profile of the population. All polls are subject to a wide range of phantom-like errors.
