Ipsos Core Political: Presidential Approval Tracker (03/25/2021)

Approval of President Joe Biden has softened since last week as Republicans' concern over immigration rises

Washington, DC, March 25, 2021 – The latest Ipsos Core Political survey finds that support for President Joe Biden has softened since last week, with 53% of Americans now approving of his job performance compared to 59% last week. However, this is in line with Biden’s approval rating from two weeks ago (54%). The economy and public health remain the most pressing issues facing the nation, followed by immigration and the healthcare system.

Nearly 1 in 4 Americans say the economy is the most important issue facing the nation. The issue of public health (11%) is down five points this week from last week (16%), driven by a decrease in importance for Democrats (21% last week to 14% this week) and independents (14% last week to 9% this week). Immigration (11%) and the healthcare system (10%) continue to be the third and fourth most important issues, with the concern over immigration driven by Republicans (22%), compared to just 2% of Democrats and 8% of independents citing it as most important.

About the Study

These are some of the findings of an Ipsos poll conducted between March 24-25, 2021. For this survey, a sample of 1,005 Americans age 18+ from the continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii were interviewed online in English. The sample includes 458 Democrats, 376 Republicans, and 110 independents. Weighting was then employed to balance demographics to ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the adult population according to Census data and to provide results intended to approximate the sample universe. The precision of Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll is accurate to within ± 3.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, had all Americans been polled. The credibility interval will be wider among subsets of the population. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including but not limited to coverage error and measurement error. The poll also has a credibility interval of ± 5.2 percentage points for Democrats, ± 5.8 percentage points for Republicans, and ± 10.7 percentage points for independents.
