In America, most still call it soccer

Three in four Americans believe that the World Cup sporting event is called soccer, not football, according to the Ipsos Consumer Tracker.

The Ipsos Consumer Tracker, fielded on Ipsos' Omnibus platform, asks Americans questions about culture, the economy and the forces that shape our lives. Here's one thing we learned this week.

Chart showing that most Americans still call it soccer, not football

Why we asked: Last year, we asked about how Americans refer to a sport that’s in the news this month. Thought it would be a good time to check in.

What we found: Despite being overwhelmed with people who call the sport football or fütbol, Americans are steadfast in their belief that kicking the round ball around a massive stadium is soccer. Take that, world.
