President Trump's overall approval rating remains stable
President Trump's overall approval rating remains stable, while his approval on immigration has slipped.

Washington DC, July 18, 2025— The latest Reuters/Ipsos survey shows President Donald Trump’s overall approval rating remains consistent since June. However, his approval on immigration has fallen to the lowest point of his second term, but remains higher than his approval rating on other issues like the economy and foreign policy. The findings show a low approval rating on his handling of the Epstein files, but many Americans also report not knowing if they approve or disapprove. The survey also shows most Americans believe the government is hiding information around the death of and the alleged clients of accused sex trafficker, Jeffrey Epstein.
Detailed findings:
1. President Trump’s approval rating sits at 41%, consistent with the last Reuters/Ipsos survey in June 2025. Fifty-four percent of Americans report they disapprove of his performance as president, while 5% do not know.
2. Trump’s approval on immigration is the lowest it has been since his second term began in January 2025. Forty-one percent of Americans approve how he is managing immigration compared to 48% in January. Fifty-one percent disapprove and 8% do not know or refused. Despite the drop, his approval on immigration is higher than it is on other issues like the economy (35%) and foreign policy (34%).
3. Americans are split on whether they believe that violent criminals are the main focus of the Trump administration’s immigration arrests and deportations (42% agree, 44% disagree, and 14% are unsure or refused). Half agree that President Trump has gone too far with arrests of immigrants suspected of being in the country illegally at their place of work (50%) compared to 40% who disagree and 10% who do not know or refused. Forty-five percent of Americans say that immigration enforcement officers should not wear masks while making arrests, while 34% disagree and 21% do not know or refused. Thirty-eight percent of Americans agree that immigration officers need to wear masks for their own safety, 42% disagree and 21% are unsure or refused.
4. The survey also explored approval of Donald Trump’s handling of the Epstein files, and just 17% of American approve, 54% disapprove and 29% do not know or refused. Sixty percent of Americans say it is definitely or probably true that the federal government is hiding information about the death of accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Just 12% say that it is definitely or probably false, while 28% say they are unsure or refused. Seven in ten Americans (69%) say it is definitely or probably true that the federal government is hiding information about the alleged clients of accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, while just 6% say this is probably or definitely false and 25% do not know or refused.
About the Study
This Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted from July 15-16, 2025, using the probability-based KnowledgePanel®. This poll is based on a nationally representative probability sample of 1,139 adults age 18 or older. The sample includes 306 Republicans, 283 Democrats, and 318 independents.
The study was conducted in English. The data were weighted to adjust for gender by age, race and ethnicity, census region, metropolitan status, education, household income, party ID, and 2024 presidential vote. Party ID benchmarks are from the 2024 NPORS annual survey. The demographic benchmarks came from the 2024 March supplement of the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey (CPS).
The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3.4 percentage points at the 95% confidence level, for results based on the entire sample of adults. The margin of error takes into account the design effect, which was 1.21 for all adults. In our reporting of the findings, percentage points are rounded off to the nearest whole number. As a result, percentages in a given table column may total slightly higher or lower than 100%. In questions that permit multiple responses, columns may total substantially more than 100%, depending on the number of different responses offered by each respondent.
